The Tynan family produces a wide range of premium, handmade cool climate Pinot Noir. The wines are grown and made on site at Bogong Estate located in Northeast Victoria high in the Kiewa Valley, surrounded by the snows of the Australian Alps.
We have 25 acres exclusively devoted to Pinot Noir and cropped to yield under 2.5 tonnes to the acre. We have 4 pinot noir clones (D5V12, MV6, 114 &115) grown in a variety of microclimates. We can now produce up to 4500 cases p.a. Our wine region, Alpine Valleys, has a strong continental climate with a large diurnal temperature range during the ripening season. This is a classic cool climate region.
Our red pinots are hand-picked, crushed in the de-stemmer and fermented in small lots. We use a variety of cultured yeasts and more recently have moved to wild yeast ferments. We have discovered that the indigenous yeast population is robust and gives full flavours and great character to the wine. To gently extract the essence of our cool climate pinot we hand plunge each batch daily and then softly basket press. Our processing is labour intensive, gentle and true to the traditions of burgundy.
